On April 10, 2022, members of the Cairns Chinese community gathered at two of the oldest surviving cemeteries to take part in a Ching Ming (Qingming) ceremony to pay tribute to the city's earliest Chinese settlers.
The construction of the Zhongshan City Overseas Chinese Museum is currently underway. It is expected to open for its first exhibition in mid-late 2021.
The former Kwong War Chong Building on 82-84 Dixon Street was listed as a heritage item on Sydney Local Environment Plan 2012, effective on 15 May 2020.
